Crowds of visitors stop at the scenic lookout off Honoapiilani Highway searching for a spotting of whales.

As many as 12,000 humpback whales visit Hawaiian waters every winter to breed and calve their young.

The whale season runs from November through May, with the peak occurring from January through March.
